...well, that's the way I understand their article, anyway.
Stein says that as mayor, Palin continued to inject religious beliefs into her policy at times. "She asked the library how she could go about banning books," he says, because some voters thought they had inappropriate language in them. "The librarian was aghast." That woman, Mary Ellen Baker, couldn't be reached for comment, but news reports from the time show that Palin had threatened to fire Baker for not giving "full support" to the mayor.
There ain't no better way to exhibit patriotism than to take a shit on the first amendment by banning naughty books that are offensive to Jesus. What books were those, you ask? Well, the webernets have produced this.
Yeah, those are scary, naughty, filthy, satanic books. (sigh) Frankly, if I were VP, I'd ban the poetry books by Kenny Loggins and Jewel and damn near everything by Dean Koontz.
I don't know the source from Adam, so I really can't say anything about the book list's reliability. However, I can say one thing without equivocation. SHE. IS. A. FUCKING. NUTJOB.
UPDATE: I think the list may be a fake. Instead, I think it's just a comprehensive list of conservative, literary no-no's. Still doesn't change the original story about her wanting to ban books. And I'm confident that the internets will provide a comprehensive list...if there is one. Oh well.
However, if I were to assume that it was the real list (and I most certainly WILL make that indulgence), its shallowness should be an indicator of the level of sophistication that conservatives posses. More specifically, if one were going to be concerned about "naughty books", then why wouldn't the list include things deeper than Harry Potter and Cujo? Where's "The Divine Comedy" or "Dante's Inferno"? Where's "Satanic Verses"? Come on people. If you're going to be blatantly facist, at least be inclusive. I guess I don't have to ask why the list doesn't include "Mein Kampf".
